When contacting South Suburban College, participants and employers are presented with a comprehensive inventory of services. Initial screening of each participant’s employment and/or training needs is conducted. An orientation is held at South Suburban College to provide participants with information on the Workforce Development Department’s programs and services.
Summer Employment &
Work Experience Program
Types of WEX:
Subsidized Employment– A paid, planned, structured learning experience that takes place in a workplace for a limited period of time.
Job Shadowing– Learning about a job by walking through a workday as a shadow to a competent worker.
Pre-Apprenticeship Programs– prepare individuals to enter and succeed in an apprenticeship program, provide instruction and/or training toincrease math, literacy, and other vocational and pre-vocational skills needed to enter a Registered Apprenticeship program.
All applicants must between the ages of 17-24, be out of school for the summer and must meet income guidelines.

Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) Programs
Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) Program is designed to provide individuals of the West and South Suburbs of Cook County with workforce opportunities in career choices, training, work experience and job search assistance. The WIOA Program is funded through Chicago Cook Partnership.
