Yes, SSC welcomes all students who can benefit from our courses and programs. However, admission to the college does not guarantee entrance into a particular course or program of study. For example, students who wish to enroll in our transfer programs must meet State of Illinois admission standards that include coursework in English, math, social studies, and science on the high school level. If you did not meet those requirements in high school, you are required to complete them before transferring to a four-year, or two-year senior school. Some Allied Health and nursing programs have college-level prerequisite courses. For more information on admission requirements, contact the Office of Admissions at (708) 210-5718.
SSC maintains cooperative agreements with many of the surrounding local community colleges. If your community college doesn’t offer the program you want to study, you may attend SSC while paying the in-district tuition rate after you obtain a cooperative form from your community college. SSC also has special tuition rates for those who work or live in Lake County, Indiana. For additional information contact the Office of Admissions at (708) 210-5718.
For more information, visit our Future Student Page, or give us a call at (708) 210-5718 and ask us to send you an information packet about the college, including an admissions form. You’ll be notified by mail of your admission status.
No, but if you do take the ACT, it’s a good idea to have your scores forwarded to SSC because they will help your counselor to advise you in course selection. SSC requires all new students to complete the Placement exam that assesses your English, reading, and math skills. If indicated, you may be required to take developmental coursework to enhance your skills before enrolling in college-level classes. You may also use your ACT scores to qualify for the Honors Program at SSC. If you have any questions about a group advising session contact the counseling department at (708) 596-2000, ext. 5724. New students may be required to attend a Group Advising session to have the Placement results professionally interpreted, and for guidance with scheduling and registering for their first semester classes. College and program information is given to all students prior to the beginning of their studies at South Suburban College.
